Since the protest began over a week ago, a significant number of Pollution Under Control (PUC) checking centres located at petrol pumps across the city have been non-operational. Additionally, to reduce the inconvenience for vehicle owners, the Transport Department in the capital has joined hands with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) to establish new PUC checking centres at their premises.

Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot highlighted the significance of following pollution norms to improve Delhi's poor air quality. He stated, "By establishing more PUC checking units, the aim is to facilitate easier access for Delhi resident to get their vehicles tested and renew their certificate timely." Henceforth, DMRC and IGL will support this initiative with their commitment to towards sustainable environment.

In Delhi, more than 600 of the approximately 900 PUC checking centres have ceased operations due to the ongoing strike. To assist further, the Transportation Department has released a list of 300 working PUC checking units in automobile service centres, auto workshops, and DTC bus workshops. Understanding the inconvenience caused by this protest, the officials have streamlined the certificate-issuing process by centralizing it. Vehicle owners, including two-wheeler owners residing in Delhi, can now obtain or issue certificates from neighboring cities like Ghaziabad, Noida, and Faridabad.

This aims to ensure compliance with regulatory standards without waiting in long queues or causing delays in certificate renewal. The authorities have also directed strict enforcement teams to take action against PUC centres not adhering to regulatory mandates, including suspensions of their operations within the city.
